The 20th March saw the beginning of Spring and I have never felt more connected to nature as I have this season.
Spring is the time for renewal of growth and rebirth in many aspects including nature. It sees the introduction of bulbs such as the hyacinths, daffodils and crocus. A new colour palette is introduced into our commercial settings, within nature and maybe even in your own garden.
One thing that has struck me this year is the flamboyant blossom trees that have appeared around me. Blossom refers to the flowers of stone fruit trees such as cherries, plums and hawthorns and belong to the Rosaceae family.

Malus sylvestris (also known as Crab apple) is native to Europe and the Latin name translated means 'Forest Apple'. They provide pollination for other types of apple trees and can live for up to 100 years. These trees are associated with love and marriage. The flowers provide an early pollen and nectar, in particular for bees.

Prunus avium (also known as Wild Cherry) is a well-known species and is relished by gardeners and wildlife. They can live up to 60 years and flower in April with almond-scented flowers. The fruit is quickly stripped by birds and seeds are spread by dropping or swallowing them.
Next time your out and about, see if you can spot these blossoms and any other types! The app 'Picture This' can be useful for identifying plants you find when out in nature.
